Edging Profiles
After slitting is complete, we are able to run the steel coil through our edging line, where the edges of the coils are contoured by hardened rollers using tremendous pressure to produce the desired shape. These conditioned edges are free of burr, camber, and wave, which leaves the final product smooth, flat, presentable, and completely safe to handle. We also incorporate our cut-to-length process within the edging line while producing specific profiles. This leaves you with quality steel coil prepared to your specifications and ready for immediate use. All of our edges satisfy ASTM and AISI standards.
We are capable of producing conditioned edges using five different profiles, each of which come with their own advantages:
No.1 Full Round Edge
This is a full radius rounded edge that is available for up to .375” thick. This process utilizes heavy rollers that remove all burr and craft a uniform rounded edge that is easier to uncoil, safer to handle, and easier on the eyes.
No.3 Slit Edge
Roughly square in shape, this edge is the industry standard. Every coil comes off the slitting line with this edge and as a result has minimal burr but is still ideal for most applications. For a deburred option, we recommended No. 5.
No.4 Round Edge / No.5 Deburred Edge
Roughly square like No.3. For this profile, we put the coil through a rigorous finishing process to eliminate any burr and sharp edge remaining after slitting. Deburring is typically seen as a necessary step, as many industries prefer a safety edge for convenient application.
No.6 Square Edge
More radically square than the No.1 Square Edge and has a greater radius
